The 11 Choices Comparison Project

I) Introduction
II) Character Information
III) Leveling Information
IV) Comparisons
V) Final thoughts

======================================================================
I: Introduction
This is part 1 of an ongoing comparison of the various classes and
advancements,Cheap Maple Story Mesos I have started 11 unfunded characters of varied classes
and abilities to share my experiences with each one.
Part 1, which is levels 1-30 for each character, has been completed.
11 x 30 = 330 total levels.
This is the shortest part, it is limited to first job skills and no mastery,
making comparisons difficult, I have higher hopes for part 2.
Part 2, which is levels 30-50 (total levels = 550),
is going to take a very long time, I don't expect to get it done anytime soon,
and it will take much longer to get to 3rd job, but I don't mind,
as long as I enjoy playing, it doesn't matter how long it takes at all.
Part 3 is levels 50-70, part 4 70-100, part 5 100-120,
but as the levels go higher, the chance I'll be able to get there decreases
as the time needed to level up increases.
I know what comments will come because of the above,
so I'll stop them now by saying I am not wasting my life,
I do not spend every hour of every day playing MS, and I often take
life-breaks lasting between a few days minimum to a month maximum.
There is a little more information, room for feedback,
and the start of part 2 in the hidden street forum.
I strongly recommend that if you join,
or even if you have already joined and haven't done it already,
read the ToS, post in the appropriate parts of the forum,
and use the search function before asking a question.

II: Character information
For each of my characters, I have used "Jise"* followed by
something to do with the character,
"Storm" for fire/poison (sounds better for lightning, but I'm not
going to change it now, just think of it as short for firestorm... ).
"Blizzard" for ice/lightning
"HeaLight" for cleric (12 letters maximum, so I used the L for the
end of heal and the beginning of Light).
"Shooter" for hunter, because I feel it suits bows better, as shooter
would be many shots, referring to the bow's faster attack speed.
"sniper" for crossbowman, as a 'snipe' is a single, powerful shot,
as in the crossbow's higher single attack strength.
"Samurai" because I like samurai, and the red katana would suit him pefectly.
"Blader" because of the large blades on two-handed swords.
"Dragoon" referring to the dragoons of video games,
usually seen with a spear, and usually linked to dragons in some way.
"Comet" representing throwing stars.
"Meteor" The large size of the meteor for the extra power of the luck daggers.
"Nova" Just to follow with the celestial body theme
* ( I wanted something original, so I made it by changing
my first name around a bit and checking google and seeing how it's
been used, I found the "J ournal of I nformation S cience and E ngineering",
the " J apanese center for I nternational S tudies in E cology" ,
a movie title including it, and part of someone's name.
I enjoy science, and am a huge fan of japanese culture,
and it is not very common, so it suits me )

======================================================================III: leveling information

There

are already lots of guides that give preferred maps methods for
grinding/leveling, the tree that grew and kerning PQ for example,
and while these can be good places to level, they aren't the only way,

and they aren't so fast that any other form of leveling is pointless.

Personally, I love doing quests to level, which works remarkably fast

if you hunt for the items instead of buying them,

lets take "Alex The Runaway Kid (Level 20)" for example - the quest

only gives 850 exp as a reward, about 4.2% at level 20,

but it also requires you to obtain ribbons from ribbon pigs,

which don't always drop, so you may have to kill many more,

as well as the normal pigs that run around pig beach.

The same goes for the 50 evil eye tails you need. This means that the

actual minimum exp you get from the quest for hunting all the monsters

yourself and getting the drop you need 100% would be (850)+(200)+(2500)

= 3550 exp which means about 17.56% at lv 20.

This is the absolute minimum for hunting all the items yourself,

but you will probably have to kill several more, you will probably get

even more than that, I estimate that you would normally get 5000-7500 exp

instead - over a third of the exp for that level from that one quest!

Often the quests I get each 5th or 10th level gives enough exp to get

about 5 levels, up to the next set of quests.

Most, if not all, quests were able to be completed by all classes,

however low/normal dex warriors will have a lot more trouble

with these quests, I ended up using a high-dex (just enough str,

rest into dex) build up to 30, and loved it as it could hit monsters

much more easily, which is very good for quests.

The jumping quests such as "John's Pink Flower Basket (Level 15)"
need a great deal of patience, a calm attitude, good timing,
and usually a lot of patience (yeah, I know I said it twice,
but it's important! ) , however, the rewards are very worth it,
the more practice you get here with jumping helps with
general manuverability, and if you have enough patience to deal with these,
you have a better chance of having enough patience to reach a higher level.

If you have finished all of your quests, my best advice would be to either

find a monster that drops an item you want,
or take a look at the monsters to find one that gives some decent exp,
e.g., Blue mushrooms are often overlooked.

IV: Comparisons

Str vs. Luk daggers:
Even at lower levels, the differences are noticeable,

the strength daggers do attack faster,
and the Luk daggers do more damage per hit.
There hasn't been much of a difference, but there are times when I like
luck daggers more, and times when the extra speed of str daggers was better,
however there is not enough difference in the lower levels to make a
good conclusion as to which is preferable.
It's difficult to decide, so either way is good for the first job.

one handed weapons and shields vs. two handed vs polearm/spears:
The damage reduction from shields is good, it lowers damage and potion use
by a little and the extra speed one-hand weapons have is very noticable,
as two-handed weapons tend to be very slow in comparison.
The damage from the two handed weapons is excellent though, reaching
very large numbers with power strike and good slash blasts near level 30,
and with the polearm being able to do a bit more, but
a bit more random due to the slash/stab, and attacking quite a bit slower.
Bows vs. crossbows:
Firing each has a different feel to it, the crossbows can show some very
large numbers at times while they can feel a little slow, but they do very
well when the larger numbers can 1hit ko, pig beach is a good example.
The bows feel much faster and smoother,
and the damage has a nice average damage.

Double shot vs. Arrow blow:
While the Double shot has very good average damage and is an excellent
choice, Arrow blow is also strong, hitting the 1K damage mark with an
average unscrolled weapon before lv 30, but it can be frustrating at
times when it hits a high critical shot once and
2 low damage normal shots afterwards.
They are both excellent choices, and there's no reason to flame
somebody for choosing arrow blow over double shot.

Energy Blow vs. Magic Claw:
I was expecting more from energy bolt,
but I have to agree that Magic claw is noticably better,
but that does not mean taking energy bolt instead will ruin your game,
it's still good - it takes less mp per use,
does better damage at lower levels,
and can knockback king slime in the kerning PQ.
Claw is better, but that doesn't mean bolt is terrible.

Party Questing:
I've pqed at kerning with each character, each class at various levels.
Each class is able to solo king slime by level 30, with magicians
and claw rogues at the earliest, high-dex warriors and
dagger rogues next, low/normal dex warriors and bowmen last.
======================================================================

V: Final thoughts:
Even before the first job change, each class has played completley
differently, in the end it doesn't matter who does the most damage
as long as you enjoy playing the class you choose.

I've heard of ksing and hacking being two of the most frustrating
things for a player, and from my experience, all you can do to a hacker
is report them and/or send a screenshot to Wizet, anything else
(heckling them, defaming) won't help the situation.
maplestory
I'm not saying they don't deserve it, it's just that doing this won't
help them get banned, and will probably just add more stress to you.
Likewise, confronting ksers and "CC"ers aggressivley will probably
just add more stress, it's best to just find a way to cope with it.
